Welcome to Sparta Charter Pre-Kindergarten

The Sparta Charter Pre-Kindergarten was established in 2000 and is a half-day program for four-year old children residing within the Sparta Area School District. It provides a rich variety of learning experiences in a school setting taught by licensed and certified educators.  While most children that attend Pre-Kindergarten are four years old, we additionally serve three and four year olds that have been identified through formal assessments as having special educational needs.  These services include additional educational support, occupational, speech and physical therapy.

Children that will be four years old on or before September 1 may enroll in Pre-Kindergarten in either the AM session (7:15 AM -10:30 AM) or the PM session (11:15 AM -2:00 PM).   Every effort is made to try to accommodate parent requests.  Each Pre-K student is assigned to a classroom that has a certified teacher and a licensed teacher aide with about 15 other children. Bus transportation is available and provided to and from Pre-Kindergarten as requested by the parents. AM session students have breakfast at school, while PM students have lunch at school.   Most families pay for their children to have their meal provided for by the District Food Service Program.  Many families complete a form and qualify for free or reduced meal prices as well.  While it is not required that your child participate in the District Food Service Program, we do find it very beneficial from an educational viewpoint, as we use this time in the child's day as a teaching/learning experience, and it is more effective if all children are eating the same food items.

The Sparta Charter Pre-Kindergarten provides for active, hands-on learning that meets the varied needs and developmental levels of each child.  Sparta Charter Pre-Kindergarten draws from a number of best research-based practices for quality educational programs and is aligned with the Wisconsin State Standards for Early Childhood Programs.  Pre-Kindergarten classes support literacy, math, fine and large motor development, science, sensory exploration as well as social, emotional and healthy, physical development.  Students work in a large group, a small group, as well as individually, depending on their needs and the learning activity throughout the Pre-Kindergarten experience.

The Pre-Kindergarten teachers and aides have had extensive training and experience in working with young children and regularly participate in continuing professional development, with most certified staff having their Master's Degree in Education.

We hope you will take advantage of this free, public educational opportunity for your child.
